A flawless defense game

One of the longest running genres on smartphones is, without a whisper of doubt, tower defense games. Defense Zone doesnt try to innovate or bring fresh air to the genre, but to make a flawlessly standard tower defense game instead, which positively achieves.

It comes with everything it should. Different and upgradeable towers, a smart time management gameplay (mainly, dont upgrade when a new wave is incoming), detailed and gorgeous graphics, three difficulty levels and assorted dumb enemies recklessly walking to their death.

Perhaps it isnt the best game to newcomers because it lacks a tutorial and nearly all info is treated as given, but will be absolutely enjoyed by tower defense fans.

This complete version allows to play the whole game. If you want to test it first, theres a lite version containing the first three levels.

A tower defense game with zombies and Texan instead.

Whatever-comes-to-your-mind Defense may be the genre that is growing more quickly on all Android Market. That means that therere defense-like games that are a mere copy of a previous one and, luckily, a few that combine originality with precise strategy and gameplay. Zombie Defense, this Zombie Defense comes from the latter group.

There arent too many "towers" to choose from, nor there are heaps of upgrades and special attacks. You control a group of four survivors, each one with its own skills (reloading time, accuracy, rate of fire) and reasons to believe that all this z-stuff is just a matter of time and that if they can bear enough time they will survive. Once you clean a zone -what it means that youve survived one more night- you can spend daytime either preparing defenses as booby traps o sand sacks or looking for useful items as better weapons or health . Arm your team with the best weapons you find and expect a party overnight.

You may choose among three difficulty levels. Easy is pretty easy, normal is quite hard and hard is very hard. Although Zombie Defense could have everything needed to become a must have, it lacks not only of more depth in the script -characters could talk or express or do something- but also more incentives to move and explore. An active defense game based on Metal Slug franchise

First off, this game answers positively two key questions about SNK: one about if SNK would ever release a freemium game; and two about if itd be able to launch a true native mobile game instead of ports of their well-known arcade and console games. Therefore, yes to both.

Theres a third hidden question, though, given the "defense" nature of this game. We wondered about if SNK would bring something new to the defense gaming, and although it doesnt reinvent a thing, results are more than satisfactory, and the wi-fi versus battles are the cherry on top.

Graphics are, well, Metal-Slug-like, which has always been awesome since the NeoGeo days. Indeed, backgrounds and sprites have been blatantly reused. Same goes for the sound and music, a match-n-remix of oldies but goodies soundtracks and effects.

Gameplay deserves special attention. Its based on the time management formula, choosing between accumulating money to summon waves and make massive upgrades or recruiting as soon as you have money to make a dropdripping, accurate offensive. As many troops have special abilities that must be individual and manually activated, dont expect to pay not attention to the battlefield and focus on the recruitment, as it wont work in either way.

The solo campaign is divided into continents, and feels quite faithful to Metal Slug lore (in case theres such). Gameplay sometimes feels a little bit hurried and chaotic, but it will lure both defense and Metal Slug fans alike for sure, because its a really good defense game, thrilling and challenging and without obscene in-app purchases.
